
It's almost 11am on Friday when I'm posting this. Upstairs people are measuring and bagging portions of cereal and vegetables. Someone is counting out 4 hot dogs to a bag. Someone is slicing bologna. Another group of people are putting bread and dry goods in boxes. Three or four people are involved in an assembly line where they put bananas, oranges, apples and so on in the fresh veggie bag for the boxes. There's lots of noise and laugher around me. This is the food co-op.
Running around, up and down the stairs is Alayne. She could be doing many other things -- like reading a book on the beach in Hawaii, she tells me -- but she's here seeing more than 60 people get affordable food today.
